Reduce CO2 emissions by blending biofuel to fossil fuels with AOM’s Diesel Switch

The ongoing energy transition requires a holistic rethinking, especially in the mobility and industrial sectors, because almost half of all CO2 emissions still emitted in these two sectors (source: Statista 2021).

Most systems, such as the vast majority of all ships in operation today, are still depend on the use of fossil fuels. One alternative measure to reduce GHG emission can be the use of liquid biofuels, which are sustainably produced from bio-waste or biomass.

In principle, biofuel can be considered as climate-neutral. They only release the amount of CO2 during combustion that the refined plants have absorbed in their growth. Of course, the refinery process of the biofuels has to be considered in this balance as well because that causes CO2 emissions, too. Nevertheless, there are saving potentials compared to fossil fuels of 50-70%.

By adding biological to fossil fuels, it is possible to reduce CO2 emissions in the above-mentioned sectors.

Solution by Aquametro Oil & Marine:

In order to counter climate change, Aquametro Oil & Marine has implemented a functionality for adding an adjustable percentage of liquid biofuels or additives to the main fuel flow in its products "Diesel Switch" and "Diesel Switch Smart". The "Diesel Switch" can be integrated into an existing fuel system with quite low technical effort. The "Diesel Switch" of Aquametro Oil & Marine is the only one worldwide that has full type approval by DNV.

By using the "Diesel Switch", it is already possible today, to add by small efforts sustainable biofuels to the ships which still mainly use conventional fuels such as HFO or MDO, and thus sustainably reduce CO2 emissions in shipping or in industrial applications.
