The maritime industry is currently facing a number of challenges in order to reduce the carbon footprint caused by shipping while continuing to operate economically.
These challenges include Energy Efficiency Regulations such as Energy Efficiency Design Index EEDI, Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index EEXI, Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan SEEMP, Energy Efficiency Operational Index EEOI, Carbon Intensity Indicator CII and CO2 - MRV/DCS/MSA.
With all these challenges there is a great demand to accurately measure and record the fuel consumption of a vessel in order to comply with IMO regulations.
While the IMO describes in detail which data must be recorded and transmitted, the ship operator is free to choose the measuring principle with which the fuel consumption measurement is carried out. The measurement method could be by using the Bunker Delivery Notes, Bunker Tank Monitoring or Flow Meters. The measurement method must then be specified when the data is transmitted. Measuring the Fuel consumption data by using Flow Meters is by far the most accurate and efficient method as per industry standards.
