Unlocking Ship Efficiency: Insights from MCN event onboard MS Berlin
The Expert Group on Ship Efficiency of Maritimes Cluster Norddeutschland e.V. recently hosted an event focusing on the effectiveness of energy savings on ships through retrofit measures. The venue for this event was the MS Berlin of the ferry company Scandlines, where experts and stakeholders gathered to discuss this crucial topic.
Among the participants were Annemarie Dethloff and Dr. Ralf Moeck from Aquametro, actively engaging in discussions and contributing their experiences and insights. The event provided an ideal platform for sharing best practices and introducing new technologies and solutions to enhance ship efficiency.
Optimizing ship efficiency is at the core of all Aquametro solutions for the maritime industry. Some of our solutions for improved ship efficiency have been successfully installed on the MS Berlin. These include the Shaft Power Meter and several fuel oil meters, all aimed at optimizing fuel consumption and reducing environmental impact.
Using shaft power measurement & shaft power limitation is an easy and cost-effective solution to meet the EEXI requirements. The Shaft Power Meter (SPM) is the key component for measuring ship performance and fuel/propulsion efficiency. The system is easy to install and requires no electronic parts on the shaft. The system operates absolutely contact-free.
The SPM measures the shaft rpm, shaft torque and shaft power. Based on these values the SHaPoLi Monitoring Display, that is installed on the bridge, monitors the shaft power limit and in case of exceedance gives a visual and an acoustic signal. All data, necessary to comply with Resolution MEPC.335(76), is automatically recorded in a tamper-proof manner.
The Aquametro Oil & Marine Shaft Power Meter and SHaPoLi Monitoring System are Type Approved by DNV.
The event not only provided insights into current developments and challenges in ship efficiency but also offered the opportunity to learn from successful case studies and practical applications. Through close collaboration between companies like Aquametro, ferry operators like Scandlines, and industry experts, innovative solutions can be developed to further enhance energy efficiency on ships, making a significant contribution to environmental protection.
Overall, the event was a great success, providing valuable insights and momentum for future initiatives aimed at increasing ship efficiency and reducing the ecological footprint of the shipping industry.
